ATEE announces Co-Editor of European Journal of Teacher Education Manuela Heinz

Brussels, Belgium: The Nonprofit Organisation Association for Teacher Education in Europe is happiest to announce that Assistant Professor Dr Manuela Heinz has been elected Co-Editor of the European Journal of Teacher Education.

The European Journal of Teacher Education is the official journal of the ATEE, starting from January 2024.

ATEE is a Nonprofit Organisation in Belgium which aims to enhance the teaching quality of education in Europe and support the quality level of teachers and professional educators all over Europe.

Dr. Manuela Heinz is an Associate Professor and the Head of Discipline of Education at the University of Galway, Ireland.

She is originally from Dresden, where she qualified as a Spanish and English second-level teacher. She also studied at the University of Zaragoza and Edinburgh University, completing Masters’s degrees in Linguistics and Political Science.

Dr. Heinz has extensive teaching experience spanning multiple disciplines and education levels, including primary, post-primary and third level. She was part of the leadership team reconceptualising postgraduate initial teacher education and designing the Professional Master of Education at the University of Galway, Ireland.

As per the Association for Teacher Education in Europe, She has served as teacher education programme director at her university and as an advisor for various education partners, including the Department of Education’s Teacher Supply Working Group.

Dr. Heinz has conducted teacher education research for nearly twenty years with a specific focus on teacher motivations, initial teacher education selection, diversity in the teaching profession and teacher professional learning for democracy, equity and inclusion.

She has published widely in leading international journals and has been a member of the editorial board of the European Journal of Teacher Education for the past four years.

Dr. Heinz has collaborated in research and teaching projects with academic, government, community and school partners from Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the UK and the US.
