The Cathedral of St Servatia in m. Gimbergen held a sacred liturgy for peace in Ukraine to celebrate the Independence Day of Ukraine today morning, Friday, August 25, 2023. The Episcopal Vicar of the Paris Diocese of St. Vladimir the Great in Belgium, Father Ivan Dančhevsky, led the service.
The event was joined by the abbot of the Abbey Grimbergen, Eric de Sutter, subprior of the Abbey Karel Stautemas and speaker of the conference of the Bishops of Belgium, Tommy Scholtes.
The Liturgy was attended by several high-ranking guests, including the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Fernand Etzen, the Mayor of Grimbergen Bart Laremans, representatives of the diplomatic corps, the authorities of Belgium, the local authorities of Grimbergen and the Ukrainian community.
In the Cathedral during worship was the flag of Ukraine, signed by defenders of Ukraine. Ukraine extended their pleasure and thanked the Abbey and Father Karel Stautemas for the opportunity to hold Abbey services on this important day.
They also thanked Father Ivan Danchevsky, Father Oleg Zymak for the Liturgy and everyone for participating in the prayer for peace and Victory of Ukraine.

The Liturgy was attended by several high-ranking guests, including the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Fernand Etgen, Grimbergen Mayor Bart Laeremans, representatives of the diplomatic corps, Belgian authorities, local authorities of Grimbergen and the Ukrainian community.
In the Cathedral during the service, a flag of Ukraine was signed by the defenders of Ukraine. The Ukraine also thanked the Abbey and Father Karel Stautemas for the opportunity to hold a service in the Abbey on this defining day.
They thanked Father Ivan Danchevskyi, Father Zymak Oleh for the Liturgy and everyone for participating in the prayer for peace and Victory in Ukraine.
