Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit attended the EU CELAC summit yesterday, Monday, July 17, 2023, in Brussels with Delegations from Latin America and the Caribbeans to strengthen its ties and to discuss several issues related to the economy, trade investment, climate etc.

As per the reports shared, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica attended the EU CELAC Summit with by President of the European Council, Charles Michel; the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, President of the Council of the European Union; and President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

Over 50 leaders from the three regions, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, were present to hold several discussions and collaborations. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, emphasised the increasing interdependence between Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe.

She also unveiled several plans for a Substantial investment of 45 Billion euros under the Global Gateway scheme.

On Tuesday, July 18, 2023, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, while attending the EU-CELAC summit, shared on his official social media handle, “We come together to discuss critical matters that transcend borders. This summit serves as a platform for collaborative action to address common challenges for the betterment of our nations and the world.”

Further, As per the released reports, The leaders focused on the enormous potential of and opportunities offered by the twin green and digital transitions to increase the prosperity of their citizens.

They also addressed several topics intending to strengthen the EU-CELAC partnership further, including enhanced cooperation in multilateral fora, global peace and stability, trade and investment, economic recovery, efforts to combat climate change, research and innovation, justice and security for citizens, etc.
