Dominica: PM Roosevelt Skerrit shares updates on ongoing projects and initiatives

Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit shared an update on the several ongoing projects and other developmental initiatives that the administration has launched during the first month of the year, January 2025.

 

While sharing the January month’s update through social media, PM Skerrit also urged the public to always stay updated about the functioning of the Government. He stated that the Dominican government is always committed towards the overall development of the country. Moreover, the Government has launched a number of new projects, signed contracts for economic boost.

 

Taking to social media, PM Skerrit shared a series of highlights of “Government in Action- January Month” which included information about the ongoing projects and several programs, policies implemented by his government to make Dominica a dynamic and prosperous nation in future. 

 

To begin with the government has launched a series of townhall meetings. These meetings are aimed to provide a platform of direct communication between government and public which will help positively in effective formulation of policies and their implementation.

 

Similarly, the PM’s recent announcement on reviewing minimum wages as well as corporate taxes is also underlined in the highlights shared by the Dominican leader.

 

Notably the government signed a contract on January 10 for development of a citrus certification facility to reestablish Dominica as leading citrus exporter. The facility is expected to boost the quantity of citrus exports from Dominica to different parts of the world. 

 

Similarly, another historic contract was signed by the government on January 6 for constructing Kalinago multipurpose centre and emergency shelter. The work is going on at a rapid pace and is moving towards completion of the project as soon as possible.

 

The Dominica government is also taking serious steps to preserve the country’s rich heritage and cultural values. In this direction, the Government signed a contract for renovation of the “Arawak house of culture” roof. 

 

To dispel fears of certain sections of the country, PM Skerrit also addressed the electoral reform. He reiterated at the forum that the government is committed to protect the right to vote of all including those who are currently living abroad.

 

The updates on Dominica grammar school were also shared by the PM. As per updated information, the school’s construction will be completed as per schedule on June, 2025.

Another development project namely “Chatwell feeder road” has been executed to assist farmers. The road will help farmers to have greater market access.

 

On the economic side, work on Cabrits Marina is also underway. The project is being funded through Citizenship by Investment programme.The China funded “Colihaut River Wall-Phase 2” has also entered a second phase which will prevent loss caused by flooding.
