Dominica set to launch world’s longest cable car by year-end: PM Roosevelt Skerrit

Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister during his visit to the cable car project site expressed hopes for completion of the project by the end of the current year. He informed that 60% of project work has been completed so far.

The near completion Cable car project is a joint venture between ABL Holdings Limited and Doppelmayr, a world leader in cable car technology.

PM Skerrit along with Housing Minister Mellissa Skerrit and Tourism Minister Denise Charles interacted with project manager Randall Gliege and the construction workers on the site.

Randall Gliege while sharing details on the ongoing work stated, as work for the bottom station is already complete, now we must complete the work of the top station’s foundation as soon as possible.

While taking to social media, the Dominican leader shared glimpses of his recent visit to the site. Moreover, the PM appreciated the entire team of the construction company under project manager Randall Gliege for their hard work.

He also expressed satisfaction at the pace of ongoing work and said, as the project will most probably be completed at the end of year it is bound to attract tourists from across the globe.

This increased tourism inflow will result in more developed Dominica. This one of wonderful architectural marvels is bound to take Dominica’s economy to new heights.

While revealing the after plan regarding the Cable Car site development, the PM stated, “The top station will be one of top attractions among other things for tourists. The top station will have souvenir shops, coffee houses, restaurants while generating employment opportunities.”

At the same time the PM touched upon the issue of tour guides who are fearing their displacement after the starting of the project.

He tried to dispel their fears and assure tour guides will be provided with new job options. They can also offer their services on cable car to international tourists. Moreover, tourists will continue to have the choice to hike to boiling lake instead of riding cable car and will need guide service as it is.

Randall Gliege, project manager on the other hand revealed that, project had provided employment to many locals with an existing number of 290. The existing workforce has people from Portsmouth, Scottshead, Pointe Mitchell and Roseau Valley.
