The Government of Fiji is setting the bar for ocean conservation with the Blue Prosperity Marine Spatial Planning Workshop. This significant Gathering was held at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi Yesterday (Monday), August 8, 2023.

As per the Update, This official Gathering has brought together stakeholders, leaders, and ocean specialists to address the pressing issue of protecting our oceans and wisely managing their resources.

In his introductory remarks, Sakiusa Tubuna, Assistant Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, urged international cooperation in resolving issues endangering our oceans.

In his remarks, Assistant Minister Tubuna emphasized the need for collaboration and highlighted Fiji’s contribution to ocean conservation.

The Assistant Minister also acknowledged the diverse collection of persons at the session and the monumental challenge ahead.
“I see people from all over the world with different knowledge and expertise,” Tubuna added, complimenting those who travelled long distances to assist with this essential work.

Tubuna emphasized Fiji’s significant contribution to ocean preservation throughout his address and valued the involvement of ocean specialists from the Maldives, Bermuda, the Azores, and other locations.

The workshop was a place for international discussions, sharing knowledge, and finding new solutions.

Tubuna talked about how oceans connect countries. “Even though we are different, the ocean brings us together,” he said, urging everyone to work together to solve the problems affecting our oceans.

“There is an urgent need to save our oceans as we face issues like decreasing fish populations, coral bleaching, and rising sea levels.”
“Despite these challenges, we are determined to inspire the world to protect our planet for the future,” he said.

“Together, we aim to protect and manage 30% of the oceans. Stay strong: by working together and being committed, we can ensure healthy oceans and thriving communities.,” he said, referring to a global agreement among 190 countries.

The WAITT Foundation supports the Blue Prosperity Workshop. The 5-day workshop will conclude on Friday, August 11.
