Fiji: Minister of Education Opening of School at Soloira District School

The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, officially opened the first Library room for Soloira District School in Serea Naitasiri today. The Library, funded by the Australian Government, is part of 98 schools that will be assisted by the Australian Government through library rooms and books as a partnership to address literacy and numeracy skills and knowledge for Fijian students.

The First Secretary of Development for the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade, Dr Frank Thompson, and his team from the Australian Embassy were also in attendance to co-open the Soloira District School Library.

Meanwhile, the Minister was also accorded a full traditional welcome by the school and villages of Serea and other representatives from Naitasiri villages who were proud to welcome a former Soloira District School student and a hard-working son of Naitasiri to the school he once attended.

The Minister attended classes 1 to 6 in Soloira District School for more than 40 years before attending Queen Victoria School to attend his secondary education from Form 1 to Form 6.

An emotional Minister today inspired the students and parents of Soloira District School that nothing was stopping other students from becoming successful later in life if they could make it despite their challenges as a youngster. He encouraged them to love reading and to take time to work hard because life rewards those who are diligent

Radrodro thanked the Soloira District School Head of School, the teachers, and the community of Serea, especially the village Chiefs and each village member, for their solidarity and support for his season of leadership.

He promised to work hard and always make them all proud. Honourable Radrodro finished by saying that where there is Unity, God commands his blessings.
