French Film Directors Benoît Jacquot and Jacques Doillon Detained for Questioning in Sexual Abuse Case

Paris, France:  Renowned French filmmakers Benoît Jacquot and Jacques Doillon were detained by French authorities today for questioning regarding allegations of sexual abuse.

This development follows formal accusations made by prominent actors Judith Godrèche and Isild Le Besco, as well as actor Julia Roy, who have come forward with serious allegations spanning several decades.

The accusations against Jacquot, 74, and Doillon, 79, have sent shockwaves through the French film industry. Judith Godrèche, 52, has accused Jacquot of rape and Doillon of sexual assault during her teenage years.

According to Godrèche, the incidents occurred in the late 1980s and early 1990s, alleging a troubling power dynamic during her relationship with Jacquot that began when she was just 14 years old.

Isild Le Besco, now 41, has also accused Jacquot of rape, recounting a distressing relationship that began when she was 16 and he was 52, lasting nearly a decade until 2007. These accusations have sparked a broader conversation about power imbalances and abuse in the entertainment industry.

Actor Julia Roy, 34, has additionally filed a complaint against Jacquot for sexual assault, describing a prolonged period of alleged abuse under circumstances she characterized as coercive and violent.

Today, both directors arrived at a Paris police station accompanied by their legal representatives.

Their lawyers have staunchly defended their clients, emphasizing the presumption of innocence and questioning the timing and legal basis of the accusations made decades after the alleged incidents.

Julia Minkowski, representing Benoît Jacquot, expressed her client’s intention to fully cooperate with the legal process. “Mr. Jacquot welcomes the opportunity to present his side of the story in front of the law,” she stated, reiterating his denial of all allegations.

Marie Dosé, attorney for Jacques Doillon, criticized the decision to detain her client, arguing that the passage of over three decades since the alleged incident undermines the legal grounds for such drastic measures.

“There is no justification for detaining Mr. Doillon based on events alleged to have occurred 36 years ago,” Dosé asserted.

Meanwhile, Judith Godrèche took to Instagram, expressing her emotional response to the day’s developments. “I am deeply moved that justice is finally taking this step,” she wrote, alongside a poignant photograph of her younger self standing next to Benoît Jacquot.

The detention of Jacquot and Doillon marks a significant escalation in a case that has drawn attention to issues of abuse and power dynamics within the French film industry.

As investigations continue, the outcomes of these allegations will be closely watched, with implications likely to resonate throughout the entertainment world.

Authorities have emphasized that the directors’ detention is part of standard procedure for serious allegations, underscoring the need for thorough investigation and due process in addressing accusations of this nature.

The unfolding saga involving these prominent figures has highlighted broader societal concerns and ignited discussions about accountability and the treatment of vulnerable individuals within creative industries worldwide.
