On February 6, 2023, Philipp Ackermann, the German ambassador to India, said that the G20 summit hosted by the Indian government was exceedingly well-organized and that everyone was happy with the atmosphere.

The G20 is challenging, but he claimed that the Indian side handled it with maturity. He said everyone was content with the situation, and his ministry had a few excellent bilaterals going on in the background. The German representative expressed concern that the geopolitical environment overshadowed all other G20 discussions.

According to Philipp Ackermann, the Russians and the Chinese did not permit a statement at the G20 because they would not accept any more of the similar wording from Bali.

That is unfortunate since, in his opinion, the Indian chair provided a really impressive version, and they engaged in extensive discussion.

Like in Bangalore, he said, the Chinese and the Russians prevented that communication from happening. He explained that he was paying close attention to what people were saying and that he was delighted that other topics, such as reducing poverty, ensuring food security, and addressing climate change, were also on the agenda.

Everything else was on the programme as well, and once more he must express his admiration for the Indian chair for pulling off an original and fascinating conference despite the challenging circumstances.

He said during the Raisina Dialogue, which was held in Delhi from March 2 to 4, that there was a significant Raisina movement in India, to which a few German MPs had travelled, and from his observations, it appeared to have been a great success.

He praised the Indian government and protocol for their outstanding work during their tenure as the G20 presidency. He claimed that the G20 summit and the German chancellor’s visit had made for an extremely busy week for Indians.
