The HIMARS attack on a Russian facility in the Ukrainian town of Makiivka, which is under Russian control, brings the death toll to 89.

It was estimated that there would be about 63 fatalities during the strike. More fatalities, including Lieutenant Colonel Bachurin, the regiment’s deputy commander, were reportedly discovered beneath the rubble of the building that had been levelled, according to the rescue services on the scene.

About 200 individuals put roses and wreaths in a major square in the city of Samara as part of a rare public memorial for the dozens of troops slain on New Year’s Eve in Russia. Some of the participants made a promise to “avenge” the victims.

Following the incident, air alarms were raised in Mykolaiv and Kyiv. Vitaly Kim, the governor of Mykolaiv, reported that the area was under an air alert. Suspilne, the public broadcaster of Ukraine, published an air alert for Kyiv at the same time.

The precise numbers of casualties on both sides were not disclosed. The Ukrainian military officers present on the battlefield allege that the HIMARS strike carried out on New Year’s Eve resulted in the deaths of about 450 Russian soldiers.

Since the beginning of the war, the Makiivka event has been regarded as the deadliest attack on Putin’s forces. President Zelensky also warned that Russia would make another effort to strike Ukraine.

The Ukrainian defence ministry claimed that Russia didn’t have enough weapons to sustain a prolonged combat effort. Russian missile strikes have significantly decreased since December, with fewer missiles fired than in September.

The majority of missile attacks were noted in September when Russia attacked Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and caused a complete blackout in the nation.

Russian missile strikes were frequently scaled down, and cooldown times also lengthened. In order to put an end to the violence that has claimed so many innocent lives since February 24, President Zelensky encouraged Western friends to continue their support for the nation. The conflict hasn’t ended despite over a year of fighting.
