Dominica: Melissa Skerrit hosted a ceremony named Back to School for the young children at Peebles Park through her foundation. In the event on Saturday, 31 August, she handed over the essential schooling items to the kids. The act was part of her ‘When people care, great things happen’ initiative.

Melissa Skerrit, the Housing Minister for Dominica and Parliamentary Representative of Roseau Central displayed her commitment to the welfare and education of the communities. The event worked in favor of thousands of students who needed the assistance.

The event focused on investing in youth, covered needy students of all academic levels. The students were assisted with not just the essential school supplies but also scholarships and cash donations under the initiative.

The aim of the event was to help students across the country to revisit school and restart their studies in the starting session. The giveaway by Melissa Skerrit will help the students to kickstart new sessions and will also share the burden.

Melissa Skerrit not only gave the essential schooling items to the students during the event but also motivated them with her words. She asked the students to put effort in their studies and do better in their classrooms and eventually in their lives.

The program also arranged exciting activities and fun games for young children so that the event stayed active and alive. The aim was to make the students enjoy the gathering and get them bored. Along with that, various snacks and beverages were also arranged for everyone.

The foundation of Melissa Skerrit has been serving the people of Dominica for the last eleven years. The foundation led many programs of such kinds, which successfully helped in the fulfillment of agendas and making things better.

Some of the crucial programs run by Melissa Skerrit’s Foundation are the mother and baby program, the elderly assistance program, the school feeding program, and now the back to school program. It is not that Melissa is helping the people with her political presence, but she is into these things a long before starting her career in politics.

In the event, Melissa Skerrit stated, “My only goal in this is to really help elevate our people to help relieve some of the financial burdens, to lead comfortable and happy lives.”

She also added in her words, “From a government’s point of view, we remain resolute in our push to ensure that every child is provided with a quality education, and this is exemplified through major investments in the sector and the development of our future generation and leaders.”
