New Weekend-Only Trenitalia Train Service Connects Paris with the Alps for Ski Season

Italian train service Trenitalia has announced the launch of a new winter timetable, offering affordable and convenient travel from Paris to the French Alps, catering to skiers and winter sports enthusiasts.

Starting December 15, 2024, the train service will operate weekend-only return trips between Paris and two picturesque alpine destinations: Chambéry Challes-les-Eaux and Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne-Arvan.

The new service, which runs on Saturdays and Sundays until March 30, 2025, marks Trenitalia’s expansion into the French winter tourism market.

The trains will depart Paris Gare de Lyon and connect travelers to Lyon Part-Dieu, with onward services to the two Savoie towns. These areas are known for their accessibility to ski resorts, offering quick access to some of France’s most popular winter destinations.

Passengers traveling to Chambéry, a medieval town nestled in the French Alps, will benefit from the convenience of high-speed Frecciarossa trains. The town, renowned for its historic sites including the Castle of the Dukes of Savoy, serves as a gateway to the surrounding ski resorts in the Savoie region.

For skiers, the journey between Paris and Chambéry will take less than three and a half hours, making it an efficient choice for those eager to hit the slopes.

For those heading further south, the new service also offers access to Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne-Arvan, located just outside the Maurienne Valley, another popular ski destination.

While the station has never been served by Trenitalia before, its strategic location makes it a key stop for travelers heading to nearby resorts. Additionally, Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne has earned a reputation as a cycling hub, having hosted the Tour de France multiple times.

The high-speed trains, which will run once daily on weekends, will offer a relaxing, comfortable, and environmentally friendly way to travel to the Alps. Trenitalia aims to provide a stress-free alternative to driving, particularly during the busy winter season.

With ticket prices starting at just €28 (£23), the new service is expected to attract a wide range of passengers, from budget-conscious skiers to those seeking a more luxurious travel experience.

For those looking to upgrade their journey, Trenitalia is offering four seating options: standard, business, executive, and a dedicated meeting area for professionals.

The train’s amenities ensure a comfortable ride for all types of travelers, whether they are headed to the slopes or the office.

Marco Caposciutti, President of Trenitalia France, commented, “Thanks to these new connections, we are responding to growing demand from travelers who want to get to the mountains quickly and comfortably. This is a further step in our commitment to offering flexible, environmentally-friendly routes that are tailored to every need.”

With its environmentally conscious design and affordable pricing, the new weekend-only service from Paris to the Alps is expected to become a popular choice for those seeking both convenience and comfort during the ski season.

Tickets for the new routes are already on sale, and Trenitalia is encouraging passengers to book early for the best fares.
