Paris Loses ‘City of Love’ Title as Maui Tops New Romantic Destinations Survey

Paris has been dethroned from its long-held status as the world’s most romantic city, according to a recent survey conducted by Talker Research and Funjet Vacations.

The study, which surveyed 2,000 Americans, reveals that Maui, Hawaii, has captured the hearts of many as the new top destination for romance.

Paris No Longer the Pinnacle of Romance

For years, Paris has been synonymous with romance, often regarded as the ultimate destination for couples seeking a love-filled getaway.

However, the latest survey indicates a shift in preferences. Maui, Hawaii, has emerged as the new favorite, receiving 34% of the votes from American couples.

Paris, while still highly favored, came in just behind with 33% of the votes. This unexpected change marks a significant moment for the iconic French city.

Survey Highlights and Insights

The survey not only reveals a change in the leading romantic destination but also sheds light on broader trends in travel and romance.

A noteworthy 69% of respondents agreed that smaller, more secluded destinations offer a more intimate and romantic experience compared to larger, more well-known locations.

Additionally, 45% of participants preferred lesser-known spots to set a romantic mood and foster deeper connections with their partners.

Another key finding from the survey is that 69% of respondents feel more romantic while on vacation compared to their everyday lives. This sentiment underscores the role of travel in enhancing romantic experiences and strengthening relationships.

Romantic Behaviors and Relationship Dynamics

The survey also explored the behaviors and dynamics of couples who vacation together. Among those who traveled with a partner, 55% engaged in romantic walks on the beach, 54% watched sunsets together, and 53% enjoyed holding hands.

These activities highlight the desire for shared experiences that deepen emotional connections.

Furthermore, the survey reveals that vacationing together is often seen as a significant step in a relationship. Approximately 76% of participants considered it a serious milestone, while 72% found spontaneous couple vacations to be particularly appealing and romantic.

Expert Advice on Crafting the Perfect Romantic Getaway

Experts from Funjet Vacations offer valuable advice for couples planning their romantic escapes. Dana Studbaker, Vice President of Marketing of Consumer Brands at Funjet Vacations, emphasizes the importance of vacations in rekindling romance.

“Vacationing together isn’t just about discovering new places; it’s about igniting, deepening, or rekindling the romance, escaping the ordinary, and celebrating the love that binds you,” Studbaker says.

She further highlights the advantages of all-inclusive resorts, which provide a stress-free environment by handling planning and logistics, allowing couples to focus entirely on each other.

Michael Lowery, Head of Global Consumer Business at Funjet Vacations, recommends incorporating activities such as yoga, snorkeling, paddleboarding, cooking classes, hiking, and wine tasting.

These activities not only enhance the romantic experience but also offer opportunities for bonding and meeting new people with shared interests.
