PM Roosevelt Skerrit names awards to be given to Thea LaFond Gadson

After the historic performance of Thea LaFond Gadson in the Paris Olympic Games 2024, the Government of Dominica named the athlete to honor with the highest national award in the country. PM Roosevelt Skerrit also shared the set of rewards bestowed to Thea through his social media post.

Thea LaFond Gadson recently returned from her successful venture in the Paris Olympic Games 2024 after winning a gold medal. The 30-year-old athlete represented Dominica in the women’s triple jump event and won the first gold for the island nation by covering the world’s best distance of the year.

The elected Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, highlighted that the gold medalist, Thea LaFond Gadson, will be honored with multiple awards, rewards, and titles. PM stated officially that she will receive the Dominica Award of Honour D.A.H. for her historic gold medal win while representing the nation.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit also added in his Facebook post that Thea LaFond will also be appointed as Sports Ambassador for Dominica at the diplomatic stage. In respect of her contribution to the sport of the nation, she will receive a lot at Warner, along with a cash gift of 400,000 dollars.

PM Skerrit mentioned in his post, “The Government of Dominica will honor Thea LaFond-Gadson with our country’s highest national award, the Dominica Award of Honour D.A.H., for her historic gold medal wins at the Paris Olympics. She will also receive 400, 000.00 dollars, a lot at Warner, and a diplomatic appointment as Sports Ambassador.”

The lot at Warner, which Thea LaFond will get from the Government of Dominica, will be 7,459 square feet in land area. Not just gold medalist Thea, but her coach Aaron Gadson and her husband will also be honored by the government officials.

It is understood that Thea’s husband and her coach, Aaron Gadson, will receive diplomatic passports, authorized by the Government of Dominica. The day to honor the Olympic Champion with the highest national award of Dominica is scheduled to be the Independence Day celebrations of this year, on 03 November.

Not just that, the government under PM Roosevelt Skerrit also announced the construction of a Track & Field Complex, which will be named after Thea LaFond Gadson. The work on the synthetic track facility will start with early proceedings soon.

The government will also award the other olympians like Dennick Luke, Warren Lawrence and Jasmine Schofield with 20 thousand dollars each. PM Roosevelt Skerrit enede his post while quoting, “We, once again, congratulate Thea on her achievement and wish her continued success in her athletics career.”
