PM Roosevelt Skerrit to situate independent due diligence unit for CBI

The Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, shared his decision to form a dedicated and independent due diligence unit to serve the needs of the Citizenship By Investment Programme (CBI). The announcement was made by the PM during his recent press appearance on Monday, 30 September.

It is expected that the decision will be formalised on the ground level in the month of October. The decision of the independent due diligence unit is taken with the intention of improving the processes related to the Citizenship By Investment Programme of Dominica.

PM Roosevelt Skerrit said in his words, “We in Dominica, on our own…we have done a number of things, and one of the major things which will come to effect next month, October, is the establishment of an independent due diligence unit, which will be under the aegis of the FIU.”

The PM continued, “They will be responsible for viewing all of the files and advising on applicants, who will be successful or not based on the due diligence reports and also based on the reports from the Joint Regional Communications Centre.”

The vision of PM Roosevelt Skerrit with an independent due diligence unit for Dominica’s Citizenship By Investment Programme is clearly to maintain the highest standards. In order to follow this approach, it is said that all the members of the unit are vetted by the Joint Regional Communications Centre and the Regional Security System.

The Prime Minister also talked about the negative opinions being spread by a few people about the Citizenship By Investment Programme. He stated that it is the responsibility of every Dominican to condemn all the attempts to undermine the programme.

Roosevelt Skerrit also said, “The reality is, my dear friends, we need five million dollars every month to underwrite the operations of the National Employment Program. We all in Dominica understand and appreciate the positive, economic, and social impacts, which National Employment Program has on several households across Dominica.”

The step taken by the government of Dominica to form an independent due diligence unit is expected to increase security in the Citizenship By Investment Programme. It will also help to maintain the smooth processing for the applicants while achieving the aims.
