Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit exchanged dialogues with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Monday. The meeting marked a strong diplomatic ties between two nations.
They jointly implement the Global Development initiative and promote the development of cooperative relations between China and Dominica.
Both countries have shared a long-standing diplomatic relationship for 20 years. Xi said that the two countries respected and cooperated with each other in every project.
“Dominica is an important country in the Caribbean, as well as a trustworthy good friend and partner of China in the region”, President Jinping said.
Continuing his statement, he further added that “With increasing political mutual trust, vigorous exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and deepening friendship between the two peoples, China-Dominica relations have become a good example of South-South cooperation.”
Prime Minister Skerrit also met Premier Li Qiang and the Chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, Zhao Leji. He expressed his commitment to foster cooperation with China in various field.
Zhao said that China is seeking an opportunity to work with Dominica to implement the significant consensus reached by the heads of both countries.
He further added that NPC is excited to strengthen and foster friendly exchanges with Dominica’s Parliament and is willing to exchange experience on state governance.
PM Skerrit took to his official social media handle (Facebook) to share an update on his recent visit to Beijing with the people.
“I met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Monday. We discussed our longstanding relationship and pledged our commitment to deepening the friendship between our two countries through vigorous exchanges and further cooperation in various fields”, PM Skerrit stated.
The President of China, Xi Jinping offers a place to study in his country to the Dominican students and assured them that China will be supporting every student by offering scholarships and various training programs.
Additionally, this productive meeting was attended by PM Skerrit, Minister Melissa Skerrit, Dr Irving Mclyntre, Dr Vince Henderson, Denise Charles- Pemberton and Darron Lloyd, among others.
