Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka Welcomes UNDP’s High-Level Mission to Fiji

Fiji: Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka met with the UNDP Assistant Administrator and UN Assistant Secretary-General, Kanni Wignaraja, who is leading a high-level mission to Fiji today (Wednesday), October 11, 2023.

The UN Assitant Secretary General, Kanni Wignaraja, extended his pleasure and gratitude to meet the Prime Minister of Fiji, Dr Sitiveni Rabuka. They looked forward to enhancing their relationship and collaboration with the Republic of Fiji.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Rabuka and Wignaraja discussed their commitment to nurturing a dynamic and enduring partnership between Fiji and UNDP.

They also looked forward towards an effective collaboration which will play a pivotal role in promoting sustainable development, addressing climate change, and ensuring effective governance in the Pacific region.

In acknowledging the UNDP’s dedication to the well-being and progress of Fiji, Prime Minister Rabuka extended his gratitude for the ongoing support in achieving the nation’s development goals.

He emphasised the significance of the mission and expressed hope for fresh avenues for cooperation to strengthen the partnership between Fiji and UNDP further.

The UN Assistant Secretary-General Wignaraja expressed her appreciation for the warm welcome and reaffirmed the UNDP’s commitment to working closely with Fiji to enhance development efforts further.

She emphasised the importance of addressing emerging development priorities, and the mission will provide a platform to explore innovative solutions and strategies to achieve sustainable development goals.

As Fiji continues to play a significant role in the broader Pacific region, the Fijian government and UNDP collaboration remains a beacon of hope for addressing the pressing challenges Pacific Island nations face.

Scheduled for Tuesday, October 10, to Saturday, October 14, 2023, the UNDP High-Level Mission aims to identify potential development cooperation areas that align with the region’s emerging development priorities.

The meeting follows a significant discussion on the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) fringes in New York two weeks ago.
