Paris, April 6, 2025 — Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) sealed their dominance over French football once again by clinching the Ligue 1 title on Saturday night with a 1-0 victory against Angers at the Parc des Princes.
The win, coming just days before their UEFA Champions League quarter-final showdown with Aston Villa, underscored the club’s continued domestic supremacy under manager Luis Enrique.
A second-half strike by 18-year-old midfielder Désiré Doué proved decisive as PSG claimed their fourth consecutive Ligue 1 crown — and their 11th in 13 seasons.
The victory pushed them an unassailable 24 points ahead of second-placed AS Monaco with six games remaining in the campaign.
The result means PSG have now collected 13 Ligue 1 titles in total, further extending their lead as France’s most decorated top-flight club. Saint-Étienne (10), Marseille (9), Nantes and Monaco (8 each) continue to trail behind the capital club, who have enjoyed a period of unprecedented success since Qatar Sports Investments took over in 2011.
Captain Marquinhos, celebrating his 10th league title since joining PSG in 2013, praised the team’s consistency and focus throughout the season.
“It’s a nice feeling. It is the reward for the work we have put in throughout the season, for our consistency, and the team deserves it,” said the Brazilian defender.
Despite the significance of the achievement, post-match celebrations remained relatively modest. With a high-stakes European fixture looming, the PSG squad refrained from exuberant festivities.
Still, Luis Enrique received a celebratory lift from his coaching staff after the final whistle, and the players acknowledged the home crowd with a lap of honour.
The official Ligue 1 trophy presentation is expected to take place later this month.
Doué, who scored the decisive goal in the 53rd minute, continues to impress in his breakout season and may play a crucial role in PSG’s European campaign.
His composed finish on Saturday ensured the club could shift their full focus to the Champions League without domestic distractions.
Enrique, in his debut season at the helm, has delivered on his promise of domestic dominance. Now, PSG turns its attention to conquering Europe — a feat that has remained elusive despite their domestic success.
The Champions League quarter-final first leg against Aston Villa is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, at the Parc des Princes. The return leg will be played in Birmingham on April 15.
For PSG fans and the club’s ambitious Qatari ownership, winning Ligue 1 has become routine. The true test lies ahead as they chase the continental glory that continues to evade them.
As Marquinhos summed it up:
“Our ambition is to win everything. We know the title is only one step. Now, we focus on the next big challenge.”
With the league wrapped up early, PSG’s European dream takes center stage.
