Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J. Pierre, bid a final farewell to Joseph Baden Allain, a politician and a former Speaker of the House of Assembly of St. Lucia. He passed away on December 26, 2022. Minister Pierre also gave condolences to his family.
He wrote, “Today I bid my final farewell to my friend Joseph Baden Allain who laid in State at the House of Parliament. I also had the opportunity to pay my respects to his family who so graciously shared him with this country which he served diligently”.
“I pray for the repose of his soul on his journey to his final resting place. May angels guide him home. Rest in peace, Joe”, said Minister Pierre.
During the Kenny Anthony-led Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) administration, Joseph Allain served as Speaker of the House of Assembly of St. Lucia from April 8, 2003, to November 17, 2006.
Minister Philip observed that Joe served his community and country brilliantly in his formal roles as the Speaker of the House of Assembly and the M.P. for Soufriere/Fond St. Jacques.
He said that Allain continued to serve his fellow citizens and the advancement of his nation with the same zeal and devotion as before.
Joseph Baden Allain was born in Soufriere on May 21, 1941, and he later married Patricia there. He left Soufriere R.C. Boys School in 1953 after receiving his diploma and enrolled in college to complete his study. Allain attended St. Mary’s College in Castries from 1953 to 1958, where he earned his degree.
Later, he enrolled in the Institute of Court School of Law, receiving a Certificate of Legal Education in October 1973.
Allain was a member of the Saint Lucia House of Assembly from 1987 to 1992 after being elected that year. He was selected as the Saint Lucia Labour Party’s secretary in 1986.
