Dominica: Roosevelt Skerrit, the serving Prime Minister of the island state, officially shared the information of his meeting with the Olympic champion Thea LaFond Gadson. The athlete gave a courtesy call to the PM against all the respect she collected from the government and the people of the nation.
The 30-year-old athlete went to meet the Prime Minister along with coach Aaron Gadson and her husband in the company on Tuesday, 27 August. Roosevelt Skerrit mentioned this moment as a privilege for himself when he got a courtesy call from an Olympic Gold Medalist.
PM Skerrit mentioned in his social media post, “Earlier today, I had the privilege of receiving a courtesy call from Olympic Gold Medalist Thea LaFond-Gadson, who was accompanied by her husband and coach, Aaron Gadson.”
The Prime Minister in person congratulated the athlete for her remarkable performance in the Paris Olympics and also expressed his gratitude for what she had done for the nation. Her victory is seen as a matter of pride and inspiration in Dominica.
In the meeting, other than congratulations and expressing gratitude, both sides also got involved in a serious discussion on the future of sport in the nation. Thea LaFond shared her valuable intakes with PM Skerrit to advance the sports infrastructure.
Her vision is valuable as now she is also named for the position of Sports ambassador for Dominica. The PM said while praising Thea, “It was an honor to personally congratulate the Olympic Champion on her remarkable performance at the Paris Olympics and to discuss our shared vision for advancing sports development in Dominica.”
The meeting of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit with Thea LaFond Gadson came in the chain of events during the celebration time in Dominica. The celebration is going on in honor of Gadson, who scored the first-ever gold medal for the island nation.
Recently, Thea LaFond participated in the Paris Olympic Games 2024 in the field event of the women’s triple jump. In her category, she defeated all the competitors for first place by covering a distance of 15.02 meters. This was also the record jump of the year.
Roosevelt Skerrit also added, “As part of ongoing activities to celebrate Thea’s achievements, the Government of Dominica will host a reception in her honor at the State House Conference Center on Wednesday. She is also scheduled to visit the Mahaut Primary School, Castle Bruce Secondary School, and the Dominica State College later this week.
