United Airlines’ direct flight will make Dominica more accessible: PM Roosevelt Skerrit

The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit termed the launch of United Airlines direct flight to Island nation as a new beginning in the aviation sector of the country.

He personally welcomed the passengers of the inaugural flight that reached on Saturday at Douglas Charles Airport.

As a plane of United Airlines touched the runway of Douglas Charles Airport it received a water cannon salute from the airport staff. At the same time cultural events were also organised to celebrate this historic moment for the aviation industry of Dominica.

PM Skerrit while taking to his official Facebook page shared glimpses from the welcoming ceremony. The Prime Minister said that the tourism sector will reach new heights as this new flight is bound to attract tourists from all over the world.

In addition, Prime Minister Skerrit stated, “This arrival of United Airlines flight at Douglas Charles Airport on Saturday is really a momentous occasion. This is a remarkable milestone for our aviation industry as making our Nature Island even more accessible to the world.”

He also shared a video of the welcome ceremony underlining, “Big things ahead for tourism, business and connectivity!  Here are highlights of the exciting inaugural landing and welcome ceremony.”

PM Skerrit expressed his gratitude towards United Airlines management by stating, “As I used to say, united we stand so this time United Airlines connected us to the entire world. This decision of United Airlines to launch a flight to Dominica should be celebrated by all of us”.

Moreover, the PM added, the new flight will give us an opportunity to show our hospitality to international tourists, whereas it will also boost job creation which will benefit all job seekers especially those who are interested in the tourism and hospitality management sector of the country.

Besides international tourists, the Dominicans who are living abroad can now easily visit to celebrate festival season with their families in Dominica, highlighted PM Skerrit.

It is to be noted that in the initial stage airlines will operate once a week, however the frequency may be increased in future.

Meanwhile Dominican pilot Peter Codrington felt elated as he created history by flying United Airlines’ flight to Dominica.

Reacting to the Facebook post of PM Skerrit, social media users extended their best wishes. Catherine Joseph, a Facebook user commented, “We are getting there, Dynamic Dominica, thanks to Roosevelt Skerrit and the DLP”.
