Ambassador Andreas Michael joins German European School in Manila

The German Ambassador to the Philippines, Dr Andreas Michael Pfaffernoschke, joined an event celebrating German Unity Day at the German European School Manila held last Friday, October 6, 2023.

The German Embassy in Manila extended their pleasure and welcomed the Ambassador to the event.

As per the Update, The day kicked off with musical performances in the auditorium, followed by Germany-themed activities in the lobby. Younger students then played games on the field, representing their student houses named after German cities!

In a thought-provoking discussion attended by Dr Pfaffernoschke and Head of School Frank, older students delved into global crises and how commemorating German Unity Day can inspire unity and cooperation among nations today.

Ambassador Pfaffernoschke also highlighted how imparting knowledge and reinforcing the significance of German Unity Day to the younger generation is crucial.

The German Embassy in Manila sincerely thanked the German European School Manila and its students for organizing this activity, staying true to its mission of blending German values with international perspectives.

Ambassador Dr. Andreas Michael Pfaffernoschke of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Philippines recently paid a courtesy visit to Presidential Peace Adviser Sec. Carlito G. Galvez, Jr. and Deputy Peace Adviser Senior Undersecretary Isidro Purisima on Friday, October 6, to discuss ongoing peacebuilding initiatives supported by the Embassy of Germany in the Philippines.

As the newly-appointed Ambassador of Germany to the Philippines, Ambassador Pfaffernoschke presented his credentials to President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. last August 17 2023.

He expressed his desire to help strengthen Philippines-Germany relations, particularly in trade, investment and economic cooperation and lead efforts to promote climate change adaptation and mitigation and maintain international order.

The Federal Republic of Germany has been supporting the Philippine government in the decommissioning process for Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) combatants.

Its previous projects in the country include:

  • Various initiatives on strengthening local resource and asset management capacities.
  • Managing internally displaced persons.
  • Promoting a culture of peace and nonviolence.

Among the possible areas of collaboration between the Philippines and Germany include initiatives to strengthen OPAPRU’s interventions on Women, Peace, and Security, accelerate the implementation of the Normalization Program for MILF combatants, and other efforts to sustain the gains of peace in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
