Belgian Defence Minister to visit their troops in Romania
The Belgian Defence Minister Ludivine Dedonder will pay a visit to Belgium troops in Romania on Tuesday.
Around 300 Belgian soldiers, mostly infantrymen from the 1/3 Lanciers battalion, have been deployed to Romania as part of NATO’s reinforcement of their eastern flank following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
This followed NATO’s decision to station four extra ‘battlegroups’ along the alliance’s eastern flank in Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania, in addition to the four currently present in the Baltic States and Poland.
The minister will depart Melsbroek on Tuesday morning for Romania, where she will, among other things, participate in a military exercise on a shooting range.
On June 17, Belgian soldiers will receive another important visitor when King Philippe travels to Belgium’s military base on Romania’s the Black Sea.
