Belgium records average of 1,664 new COVID-19 cases, up by 8%: Reports

Belgium recorded an average of 1,664 new COVID-19 cases between the period of August 6 and August 12, 2022, which is up by almost 8% from the previous week. The following information has been shared from the Sciensano public health institute, updated in Friday morning.
Over the same period, an average of 6.4 people died per day while carrying the virus (+15%), bringing the death toll since the start of the pandemic in Belgium to 32,625.
An average of around 8,700 tests were carried out regularly, with a positivity rate of 20.1%. Between August 9 and 15, there were on average 55.6 hospital admissions each day because of COVID-19, down 7% from the earlier reporting period.
The number of people hospitalised with Covid-19 is now 707, including 56 in intensive care.
The reproduction rate of the virus is 0.97. When it is less than 1, this sign means the epidemic is slowing down.
The incidence of the virus – the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants over a 14-day period – is now 194.
