The Consulate General of France in the Atlantic Provinces celebrated the 250th anniversary of arriving Acadian refugees in Poitou (France) on Friday, September 1, 2023. Several festivities were organised on the streets of France to honour and commemorate this day.
The 250th anniversary of arriving Acadian refugees commemorates the brilliant lives of 78 Acadian families in 40 villages. The day was celebrated to make the Acadian refugees are alive and well.
On a particular day, A vital delegation visited France as part of the festivities organized on the 250th anniversary of arriving Acadian refugees in the Vienna Department in 1773, after years of deportation and inhumane conditions, leading to numerous deaths.
The Minister of New Brunswick in charge of Francophonie, Glen Savoie, and the President of the Société Nationale de l’Acadie, M. Martin Théberge, visited the town festivities. Both the delegations were accompanied by many Acadians and indigenous personalities (Brian and Hubert Francis).
The Consulate General of France in the Atlantic provinces honoured the delegation for marking grace in the event with their beautiful presence. They thanked the main organizer of these festivities, the Maison de l’Acadie, its President and his teams, as well as the local Acadian associations and the various municipalities, for their warm welcome.
