COVID-19: Belgium logs 4% increase in hospitalizations; but drop in number of deaths, says data

While the number of COVID-19 hospitalisations increasing by 4% between 16 and 22 September, there has been a significant drop in the number of deaths during the same time period.
As per the figures released on Friday by the Sciensano Public Health Institute, an average of 58 people were hospitalised each day with COVID-19 between 16 and 22 September 22.
Around 731 patients that have the virus are currently being diagnosed in intensive care (9% less than last week).
On a brighter note, between 13 and 19 September an average of 13.7 people died each day from COVID-19 a 42% decrease on the previous week.
During that same period, 1,947 new cases of the virus were detected, with the overwhelming majority of cases (91.5%) due to the Omicron BA.5 sub-variant.
Virologists are now waiting for the autumn Covid-19 booster campaign to pay off. So far 400,000 Belgians have received it this month.
