Dominica: PM Roosevelt Skerrit compliments Athanaze after getting named in men’s West Indies Cricket team

Alick Athanaze, a left-handed batsman with little experience, has been picked up by the West Indies cricket team for their upcoming Test tour of South Africa.

Alick Athanaze, Dominica sports representative, has since received congratulations from Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, for being named to the West Indies Senior Men’s Team.

“Congratulations to Dominica’s Alick Athanaze, who is named to the Senior Men’s West Indies Team!” PM Skerrit said as he shared the news on his official social media account.

He added, “This is a remarkable achievement for Athanaze, the Windward Islands Volcanoes Captain, originating from the town of Grand Bay.”

PM Skerrit also noted that the Government and People of Dominica are enormously pleased with Athanaze and continue to support him as he has joined the regional team for the South Africa tour, which begins on February 28.

He said, “Athanaze’s selection is yet another satisfying occasion for local cricket fans who have followed his growth over the years. This month, he scored his first century in regional First Class cricket.

Additionally, Prime Minister Skerrit said that the entire Dominica would join him in celebrating their enormous triumph. We wish him the best of luck as he moves on with the group.

Athanaze, a 24 years old, player set to begin his cricket career for West Indies A against Bangladesh in 2017 and finished second to Shubman Gill in terms of runs scored at the U-19 World Cup in 2018. He singlehandedly led Windward Island Volcanoes this season in the four-day regional championship. Just six days ago, on February 9, Athanaze reached his first first-class 100.
