France crossed the mark of over 2,00,000 daily COVID-19 cases

France is experiencing a “tsunami” of COVID-19 infections, with 208,000 new cases registered in the last 24 hours, As per the statement of Health Minister Oliver Veran on Wednesday.

France has been breaking COVID-19 records for the past three days, with 1,80,000 cases on Tuesday already setting a new European record.

“This means that 24 hours a day, every day and night, every second, there are almost two French people who test positive for the coronavirus in our country,” Veran explained. “We’ve never seen anything like it,” says one official, who describes the rise in instances as “dizzying.”

The Delta variant was already causing concern in hospitals, according to Veran, and Omicron had yet to make an impact, which he predicted would happen eventually. He noted that the flu would make things even more difficult for hospitals.

“In the case of Omicron, I would no longer refer to it as a wave. A groundswell occurs when numerous waves combine to make a single huge wave.” He stated.

According to reports released on Wednesday, Global COVID-19 have hit record highs over the last seven days, as the new Omicron variant form spread swiftly, keeping many workers at home and overwhelming test centres.

“Around 10% of the overall French population might have come in contact with somebody who is infected with virus,” Veran said. And even vaccination is unlikely to shield anyone. The virus circulation is too intense.”
