French Prime Minister Vows to Hunt Down Perpetrators of School Threats

Paris, March 22, 2024 (IANS) – In the wake of threatening messages sent to dozens of schools in the Paris region, French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal has pledged to pursue and severely punish those responsible for the disturbing acts.

The targeted schools, primarily secondary institutions in Ile-de-France, were subjected to messages on Wednesday threatening to detonate explosives, accompanied by harrowing footage of beheadings, as reported by local media on Thursday.

Expressing his firm condemnation, Prime Minister Attal addressed the media following an inter-ministerial meeting on school safety, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.

“It is absolutely unacceptable and inadmissible to seek to disrupt the serenity of schools,” he declared, according to Xinhua news agency.

Assuring swift action, Attal affirmed that every possible effort is being exerted to identify and apprehend the perpetrators behind these reprehensible threats. “They think they are anonymous, but we will hunt them down.

They think they are safe, but we will punish them,” he asserted, highlighting the government’s determination to ensure justice prevails. He further emphasized that numerous individuals responsible for similar threats in recent months have faced legal consequences.

Reports from local media indicate a concerning trend of bomb threats targeting schools across France in recent times.

The Interior Ministry disclosed that French educational institutions received nearly 800 hoax bomb alerts in the three-month period from September to November 2023, underscoring the scale of the challenge faced by authorities in safeguarding educational environments.

The alarming escalation of threats against schools has raised widespread concern among the public and educational authorities alike.

Parents, students, and educators have expressed fears over the impact of such incidents on the safety and well-being of students, as well as the disruption they cause to the learning environment.

In response to the heightened security risks, authorities have intensified efforts to enhance school safety measures and bolster security protocols.

However, the persistence of such threats underscores the need for a comprehensive approach involving preventive measures, effective law enforcement, and robust community engagement to address the root causes of such incidents.

The government’s unequivocal commitment to pursuing and prosecuting those responsible for threats against schools sends a strong message that such actions will not be tolerated, and perpetrators will face the full force of the law.

As investigations into the recent threats continue, stakeholders remain vigilant, advocating for collective action to uphold the fundamental right to education in a safe and secure environment

With the determination to confront these challenges head-on, France stands resolute in its resolve to protect its educational institutions and ensure the well-being of its students.
