Memorial events, marches and White House meeting to mark one year since George Floyd’s death!

Today marks the first death anniversary of George Floyd, who was killed by a police officer. The death caused a stir across the world, reflecting on topics like equality and racism. The nation honored George Floyd with memorials and peace marches. 

Family members and supporters of the deceased said they were encouraged by the progress the world is making after the demise of George Floyd. In cities like Dallas, Washington, DC, Minneapolis, people were chanting names for the man who is now the symbol of racial equality and police reform.

“Today I just felt a day of relief,” Floyd’s aunt Angela Harrelson told CNN. “The support that we have received, the love to get to this day. I am just overwhelmed with joy and hope and I feel like change is here.”

Daughter Gianna, wife Roxie Washington, sister Bridgett Floyd, and his brother Philonise Floyd went to Washington Dc. They met President of USA Joe Biden, along with speaker Nancy Pelosi and other lawmakers.

According to the press release, the meeting took place in the white house at 1: 00 PM local time, and it was real conservation between family members. 

Another event was in the form of the memorial at the offices of National Action Network, a civil rights organization founded by Mr. Sharpton. 

The memorial was to request president Joe Biden to pass the legislation that will be known as George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. Civil rights leaders and lawmakers, Mr. Sharpton and Mr. de Blasio showed the kneeling down gesture to prove the point. The act is  a legal shield against those police officers who are cause of  unmerciful cases. 

“A conviction of Chauvin is not enough,” Mr. Sharpton said. “We cannot keep going hoping we get the right evidence, hoping we get the right jury. We must have legislation that defines and refines what police excessive force is all about.”

Some parts of the country held a moment of silence to honor George Floyd’s death anniversary sharp at 9:29 a.m. on its Facebook page to mark the nine minutes 29 seconds Derek Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck.
