Kingdom of Thailand to Strengthen Economic Cooperation with Fiji

The Ambassador of Thailand to Fiji, Arjaree Sriratanaban, recently met with the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Lenora Qereqeretabua. Both of them held discussions to strengthen their partnership.

As Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy, the Kingdom of Thailand aims to strengthen its partnership with Fiji in agriculture, economy, trade and tourism.

This was conveyed by the non-resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Fiji, Arjaree Sriratanaban while paying a courtesy call to the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Lenora Qereqeretabua.

Qereqeretabua congratulated Ambassador Sriratanaban and wished her well for the new diplomatic role.

The Assistant Minister welcomed the discussions and commitment demonstrated by Thailand to advance development cooperation in economy and trade, tourism and agriculture.

She acknowledged Fiji’s cooperation with the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) in providing educational training courses and capacity-building scholarships.

It was mentioned that Fiji recipients of these training courses, programmes and scholarships have benefitted in terms of increasing productivity and enhancing the development priorities in Fiji.

On multilateral fora, Thailand has shown interest in enhancing cooperation with the Pacific Island countries by organizing a regional meeting next year.

Ambassador Sriratanaban said she is pleased with the warm hospitality accorded to her during her first visit to Fiji and the Pacific region.

She is optimistic about various discussions she had while in Fiji. There are enormous opportunities to strengthen economic cooperation in the sugar industry, agritourism, agriculture and fisheries.

There are prospects for investment ventures to be explored in the tourism sector through increased connectivity.

As the largest exporter of canned tuna, Thailand is keen to expand cooperation with Fiji’s export and trade industries and add value to Fiji’s agricultural sector.

The Ambassador said the Kingdom of Thailand stands ready to support and realign cooperation in line with Fiji’s development needs and priorities.

The meeting, which took place this week on Tuesday, 26.9.23, at the Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reaffirmed the friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

During her new diplomatic assignment, Ambassador Sriratanaban will be based at the Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra, Australia.
