Morocco: France & Belgium authorities to probe alleged killing of tourists

On Thursday, January 20, 2022, a Moroccan judge demanded the psychiatric evaluation of a man who was a prime suspect in brutally stabbing a knife to a French woman to death in a market in the southern Moroccan town called Tiznit on January 15, 2022. In the incident, a Belgium visitor got injured.

The incident has been investigated by the agencies of three countries such as France, Belgium and Morocco, to find whether the suspect was linked to any terror group.

Further, the Morocco police have arrested a 31-year-old suspect later that day in the city of Agadir, about 100 kilometres (60 miles) north of Tiznit. As per the report of the police authorities, in the incident, the suspect firstly got stuck and started attacking people with a knife in a restaurant situated n Agadir’s coastal strip. He further brutally injured a Belgian woman who was taken to the hospital due to the wounds of multiple stabbing on her body.

Moroccan police informed that the alleged suspect has not any criminal record and also added that he reportedly received treatment in the psychiatric ward of the Hasan I Hospital in Tiznit. Now, he was placed in the Razi mental facility in Sale, near Rabat, and the court demanded a psychiatric evaluation of the man.

Now, the case was assigned the case to the police anti-terror squad to probed the possible terrorist motives.

Moreover, On Wednesday, January 19, 2022, in Paris, the French anti-terror prosecutor investigation in the matter of alleged murder of the French woman and the connection of the suspect with the terrorist after she was killed in southern Morocco.

Furthermore, the Belgian Federal Public Prosecutor also urged on Thursday, January 20, 2022, that they will also probe the case to find out the possible links with terrorism in the brutal murders of the Belgian tourist in Morocco.

Earlier, in 2018, two Scandinavian women were found in the Atlas Mountains near Marrakech in the operation that is operated by the Islamic States supporters. In 2019, the three men were sentenced to death in the conviction of attack and, murder by the Moroccan court.
