The Gros Islet Nobel Laureate Committee created the Nobel Laureate Festival to honour and commemorate Sir William Arthur Lewis, winner of the Nobel Memorial Prize, and Sir Derek Walcott, another Saint Lucian Nobel laureate.
Given that Saint Lucia has fewer than 188,000 people, two Nobel Laureates there is an outstanding accomplishment. Every year, Sir Arthur Lewis, who received the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1979, and Sir Derek Walcott, who received the Nobel Prize in Literature, are honoured for their accomplishments (1992).
The Island country is celebrating Sir Arthur 1111’1Lewis and Sir Derek Walcott as part of its 30th annual Nobel Laureate Festival in January 2023. The island has more Nobel laureates per person than any other nation on the planet.
“Celebrating Excellence, Nurturing Our Creativity and Consolidating Our Legacy” is the event’s subject this year. The Saint Lucian government also publishes the calendar and events planned for the holiday season. The celebration will continue from January 18 to January 31 with various activities and events.
Visitors are encouraged to attend any more than 30 public activities happening in Saint Lucia through January 31. These events include exhibitions and community plays. There is now online access to learn about Saint Lucia’s culture for those interested.
