St Kitts & Nevis: PM Terrance Drew concentrates on enhancing Health finance and building Smart hospitals

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Terrance Drew and Minister of Health of St. Kitts and Nevis reported that while meeting with the delegates of PAHO, he joined senior health officials in the twin island and other stakeholders at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort to discuss upgrading the healthcare system and providing more medical facilities to the island populace and building smart hospitals.

On March 8, he attended a meeting with representatives from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

These modern, high-tech hospitals are anticipated to have quick medical services, modern equipment, and high-tech facilities that will offer accurate medical care and fully coordinate operations for accelerated and improved patient care.

Through his social media account, the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis mentioned that the meeting’s agenda was keenly focused on ‘Transforming the Health Systems of St. Kitts and Nevis with a focus on Health Financing’. Among the topics discussed were Universal Health Insurance and the building of the new smart hospital.

The twin island federation has advanced greatly under PM Drew’s leadership in a short period of time, and he is currently concentrating on health financing.

Its primary goal is to offer the island population beneficial health plans, including Financing Health Workforce, healthcare Supplies, advanced medicine, and providing healthcare infrastructure and Information systems for Health.

As seen in the photos shared by Minister Drew on his social media account, he remarked that several world leaders were also present at the meeting.

Dr Guillermo Sandoval, Advisor, Health Economics and Financing Office of the Subregional Program Coordination, Caribbean PAHO – World Health Organization, Dr Amalia Del Riego, PWR from PAHO’s Eastern Caribbean Office, Senator with ministerial accountability for Health et al. for the twin Island Administration, and Dr Guillermo Sandoval were also present at the meeting (NIA).

The other members were Dr Sharon Archibald, Permanent Secretary (Ag) in the Ministry of Health; Ms Azilla Clarke, Permanent Secretary (Ag) in the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Affairs; Hon. Jahnel Nisbett; Dr Patrick Martin, Special Adviser to the Ministry of Health; Dr Hazel Laws, Chief Medical Officer (CMO); Dr Jenson Morton, Director of Health Institutions; and other senior health officials and stakeholders.
