Terrance Drew: “Upcoming Federal Parliament session to be broadcast in hand-signed”

Terrence Drew, Minister of Health and Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, held a press conference on March 30, 2023, in Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis (Thursday).

This press conference was different from others since Prime Minister Drew did something special for the deaf population this time.

A hand-signing expert was featured in the press release for the first time during the live broadcast. According to the government’s statement, this special element was added at the conference in order to uphold the government’s commitment to improving services for St Kitts and Nevis’s population of people with disabilities.

Additionally, it aims to inform the community about the government’s choices and commitments to its citizens.

PM Drew made the same claim during the press conference, saying that the government had introduced the new function to make sure that the promise made on March 16, 2023. He also  talked to a number of people with disabilities after the conference.

PM Drew noted that the disabled community he recently met with outlined that they feel excluded whenever a government announcement is made in public. The public is not given a chance to receive adequate information; therefore, the government decided to inform them.

Michelle Jacobs performed hand gestures at the press conference. Since she provided a similar service during the national COVID-19 briefings for the pandemic for two years, many people got familiar with her. Prime Minister Drew mentioned that  the upcoming Federal Parliament session is also anticipated to be hand-signed.
