WHO Regional Office for Europe extended their gratitude to the Governments of Belgium and Romania for contributing their efforts to help Armenia’s several injured patients at the gas station explosion.
Recently, Armenia’s Health Department has faced a sudden outbreak, causing several injuries and deaths in the gas station outside the regional capital of Stepanakart.
Meanwhile, the Governments of Belgium, Romania and several other European countries have supported saving their lives.
Yesterday, Sunday, October 8, 2023, 3 burn survivors of the depot explosion were evacuated from Armenia by the Governments of Romania and Belgium to receive specialized treatment.
The WHO Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) initiative coordinated and collaborated on the evacuation. The WHO Regional Office in Europe extended their pleasure and thanked Belgium, the EU and Romania for their lifesaving efforts.
WHO, at the request of the Armenian Ministry of Health, coordinated the deployment of Emergency Medical Teams to Armenia.
With the help of Belgium B-FAST EMT, three severely injured patients were evacuated from Armenia and transported to a specialized burns centre in Belgium via a plane with medical staff from Romania.
Notably, A shipment of critical supplies shipped from the WHO Logistics Center in Dubai has arrived in Armenia. The consignment includes emergency surgery kits for burn patients.
UNICEF has delivered hundreds of hygiene kits to refugee families at the Yerevan reception centre in Armenia.
Each kit equips four people with essential supplies. UNICEF is working closely with the Government of Armenia to address the urgent needs of refugee families.
The WHO Regional Health Office in Europe has also noted the efforts of Armenian surgeons providing critical care to burn survivors, Dr Petrosyan.
“We work day and night. We are tired but will do everything to help our patients.
We thank the American and Israeli doctors and WHO for your help.” he said in recent conversations with the WHO office.
