Bulgaria: Minister of Culture Krstu Krastev expresses heartfelt condolences to author Angel Wagenstein’s family on his death

Bulgaria: Minister of Culture in Bulgaria, Krstu Krastev, expressed Bulgarian-based screenwriter and author Angel Wagenstein’s family on his death recently on Thursday, June 29, 2023.

Remembering his excellence in his field and highlighting his Contributions to Bulgarian Literature and society, the Minister of Bulgaria, Krstu Krastev, extended his sincere condolences to his family and everyone who loved him.

Minister Krastev’s obituary states:
“A prominent screenwriter, writer, director, intellectual, one of our pillars of spirit, holder of a number of prestigious Bulgarian and foreign honours, Angel Wagenstein is among emblematic names in Bulgaria’s cultural and public life.

His efforts and merits for developing our country and the relentless upholding of values, such as freedom, enlightenment and dignity in art and life, and the right to love, hope and tolerance among all people, places Angel Wagenstein among our contemporary awakeners.

He carried an atmosphere of wisdom and viewed his art with responsibility for his critical human mission. A deep bow! “.
The famous Bulgarian director, screenwriter, writer and publicist Angel Wagenstein was born on October 17, 1922. The creator is on the scripts of 52 feature, documentaries and animation films produced in nine countries.

He authorises plays for adults and children set in Bulgaria and abroad. He has written seven books, published in Germany, Russia, France, the Czech Republic, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Republic of Northern Macedonia, Spain, Poland, Italy, and Israel.

The novels from the trilogy “Petoknizhie Isaacovo”, “Far from Toledo” and “Goodbye Shanghai”, dedicated to the fate of European Jews during World War II, have been awarded national and international awards, including the European Jean Monet Literature Prize and the annual Literary Awards of the Union of Bulgarian Writers, the Sorbonata and UNESCO.

Angel Wagenstein is the winner of many prestigious awards, including the “Golden Age – Necklace” of the Ministry of Culture and the state award “St. Paisiy Hilendarski”.

Angel Wagenstein’s family reported that the funeral would occur in the closest family circle. The worship will take place in the Sofia synagogue on the thirtieth day of the death, as commanded by Jewish tradition.
