Bulgaria: Ministry of Culture announces opening of “Genko Genkev” Exhibition in Sofia City

The Bulgaria Ministry of Culture announced the opening of the “Genko Genkev” Exhibition, which opened in Sofia City Yesterday, On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, Beyond the Visible, remarking the 100th anniversary of the Artist’s Birth.

As per the Update the Ministry of Culture shared, In the halls of the SGHG, the current retrospective exhibition presents over a hundred works by Genko Genkov, created between 1949 and 2005. Genko Genkov creates a vast array of oil paintings on canvas and phaser and paper works, in which he perfects his watercolour technique, completed with gouache, crayons, print inks and pigments, with various grips and methods, to add contrast and strength of colour.

He experimented with graphics and rarely in sculpture, but oil painting remains his primary purpose in art. Since his early years, his artwork has constantly evolved and changed in colour, shape and strength. During the exhibition, one additional work will be presented each week in the halls of SGHG.

At the same time today, the exhibition “In Search of the Image”, again dedicated to Genko Genkov, opens at the Decchko Uzunov Gallery. It offers a meeting with preserved academic sketches, early and later pencil, charcoal and chalk drawings, and experiments in graphics – lithography and etching.

The exhibition is organized in partnership with the State Agency “Archives”, National Donation Fund “13 Centuries Bulgaria” to the Ministry of Culture, with the media partnership of BTA and with the assistance of state, municipal and private collections from Sofia and the country.
On the anniversary, a validated mark was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
