Fiji: Prime Minister Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka honours Fijiana Drua Rugby Team for Historic Victory

Suva, Fiji: Prime Minister Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka delivered a heartfelt speech this evening, celebrating the exceptional achievements of the Fijiana Drua Rugby Team.

“The team’s remarkable victory in the women’s super-rugby competition for the second time has brought immense pride and joy to the nation,” said the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka congratulated the Fijian Drua Rugby Team for their outstanding performance, highlighting their exceptional talent, dedication, discipline, and unbreakable spirit. He emphasized that their triumph has made Fiji proud and become an integral part of the country’s sporting legacy.

Acknowledging the efforts of the Fijian Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the staff for their continuous support in nurturing and empowering athletes.

He also extended his appreciation to the sponsors, including Rooster Poultry Fiji Ltd, the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Swire Shipping, Fiji Gas, Viti Solutions, and Tropik Woods, for their contribution to the development of women in rugby.

Prime Minister Rabuka reaffirmed the People’s Coalition Government’s commitment to support and invest in sports nationwide.

Government seeks to establish new sports facilities and create a robust sporting ecosystem to promote the growth and success of talented athletes on the global stage,” said the Prime Minister

Expressing his gratitude to the management team, coaches, and support staff, Prime Minister Rabuka recognized their tireless efforts in shaping the Fijian Drua Rugby Team and creating an environment for the athletes to flourish and stated that their devotion to excellence has been instrumental in achieving remarkable results and encouraging the team’s potential.

In a show of appreciation, Prime Minister Rabuka announced a grant of $328,000 approved by the Cabinet to be awarded to the Fijiana Drua Rugby Team.

“Each of the thirty-two team members will receive $8,000, with the nine-team officials, and it is our hope this small token of appreciation will boost your morale and help you prepare well for the next season.”

Prime Minister Rabuka emphasized the broader significance of this achievement, highlighting the unifying power of sports to transcend boundaries and instil national pride.

“The success of the Fijiana Drua Rugby Team embodies the core values of Fijians, including courageousness, resilience, and an unwavering spirit.”

Prime Minister Rabuka also extended his heartfelt congratulations

 to the extraordinary Fijiana Drua Rugby Team, stating that their historic achievement has etched their names in the history books and secured their place in Fiji’s sporting legacy.

“I call upon the nation to continue supporting and uplifting athletes, fostering a sporting culture that promotes health, unity, and national pride,” the Prime Minister urged.

The Fiji Government remains dedicated to providing necessary resources, facilities, and opportunities for athletes to reach even greater heights, ensuring Fiji’s continued success in the world of sports.

Bitila Tawake, the Captain of Fijiana Drua, conveyed the team’s appreciation to the Prime Minister and his Government for the gesture of appreciation. Additionally, Tawake apologized on behalf of the team for the recent outbursts during the past few weeks.
