While commemorating World Day for the elimination of Sexual Violence against women, The German-based women’s organization that which works to advance the Progressive Women’s Movement in the Philippines and around the world, Gabriela-Germany, took to their official social media handle to share some updates from the celebrating the World Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in conflict and to renew their commitment to fighting any form of violence against women by allying to extend their strong support and solidarity with their comrades.

Gabriel Germany, while recognizing the contributions of the Japanese Imperial Army towards women’s added, “The call for justice for all the survivors of the sexual violence (the so-called comfort women)committed by the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II has been advanced for more than three decades now; when in 1991, Korean Comfort Women filed a lawsuit against the Japanese Government demanding post-war responsibility, compensations and reparations for the crimes against humanity during the second world war.”

Two years later, Filipina comfort women followed suit. This advocacy led to many forms of action to popularize and advance calls and resulted in strengthening ties and solidarity among advocates from different
countries.

This international issue is of great significance, for it entails a fight against imperialism, colonial, gender, and racial oppression and domination by an imperialist country over the colonized countries.

Further, Gabriel Germany shared that we should remind ourselves that justice can only be completed if measures are taken to ensure such crimes against humanity will never be repeated. The crisis of the world capitalist system intensifies, and we can see the rise of militarism and wars or aggression. Wars of aggression bolster the patriarchal order and set up the conditions for women’s abuse, exploitation, and degradation in the colonized and exploited countries.

Furthermore, Gabriel Germany witnessed that they have no illusions that this patriarchal capitalist order will ensure that such violent crimes will never be committed again. They also added that It is their task and an urgent call for them to provide women to strengthen their international solidarity to fight against the intensifying imperialist militarism and war and to continue and advance their call for justice for all the victims of violence against women in a conflict that up to now are being committed in many parts of the world. “We rise to place the emancipation of women at the centre of social transformation!” Gabriel Germany added.
