According to a post on PSG’s social media accounts, Marco Verratti, a central midfielder for French football club Paris Saint-Germain, recently extended his contract with the club till 2026. Since leaving Pescara, an Italian international club, in 2012, the Italian has been playing for PSG. His deal with the capital club has been extended through June 30, 2026.
Verratti joined the French club and has played 399 games since 2012, following veteran defender Jean-Marc Pilorget, who has 435 appearances. Currently, Verratti is the player with the second-highest number of caps for the team.
With PSG, Verratti won eight league championships in addition to six French and six League Cups. He explained that these multiple title victories sparked his desire to extend his contract and win additional trophies with the team and career milestones.
According to the PSG coach and trainers, Marco Verratti is a diligent and inventive midfielder with exceptional vision who can penetrate tough defences and transfer the ball to the attackers, making it simple for them to score a goal.
Verratti started his professional career in 2008 with the Italian club Pescara, where he quickly established himself as one of the top young midfielders in Europe, helping the squad to win the Serie B championship in 2011–12 and taking home the 2012 Bravo Award. Due to his passing skill, vision, and control, Andrea Pirlo was compared to him in terms of playing style.
Marco Verratti made his 399th club appearance on December 29 against Strasbourg, and PSG won the game after the referee awarded a late penalty in extra time. Amazingly, Kylian Mbappe scored a stunning goal from the penalty kick, sealing the victory for his team.
With five straight wins, PSG is currently in first place in the Ligue 1 standings. It was the first game following the World Cup in Qatar. Messi, the World Cup winner, has yet to arrive in Paris, but Kylian Mbappe and Neymar are back in action. Messi is anticipated to play in the next game.
Sergio Ramos, a former Spanish player and captain of Real Madrid, said it would be wonderful to talk with Messi about the World Cup while he is absent from the tournament due to his exclusion from the Spanish World Cup roster.
He said, “Messi is the player who can lead PSG to their most anticipated trophy, “The UCL,” even though he no longer has the will to compete for titles and awards”.
