Mbappe sets new record; scores glut in 50 minutes

By defeating sixth-tier team Pays de Cassel with five goals in less than half an hour, Kylian Mbappe made history. With this convincing victory, PSG has advanced to the French Cup’s round of 16. In addition to Mbappe’s spectacular performance, Neymar and Carlos Soler each scored one goal. Estadio Bollaert-Delelis hosted the game.

Mbappe has become the first PSG player in team history to score five goals in a single match. Mbappe also assists a goal, rising his goal contribution to six in a single game for the first time. Less than 50 minutes passed between Mbappe’s goals (29′, 35′, 40′, 56′, and 78′). With 196 goals for PSG, Mbappe is gaining ground on Edinson Cavani for the highest-scoring spot (200).

The Frenchman who won the World Cup is currently the only player in PSG history to score five goals in a single match. Despite scoring more goals than necessary, Mbappe was involved in six of them, scoring five and assisting one.

He scored in minutes 29, 35, 40, 56, and 78 of the game. His key contribution to the squad this season was 26 goals in 25 games, marching his team to lift the 15th French Championship.

After the game, Mbappe addressed the media, saying, “We came here to respect this squad by playing at our level. We achieved that, and we’re thrilled about it. It was an excellent opportunity for both of us since it reminded us that we are amateur football players and that it is crucial to maintain this connection. Even if only for one match.

Although PSG coach Christophe Galtier rested World Cup winner Lionel Messi for the game played at northern side Lens’ home stadium, Galtier kept his word and selected a strong team that included World Cup top scorer Mbappe and Neymar.
