Minister of National Security in Bahamas extends condolences to family of Late Police Commissioner

The Minister of National Security in the Bahamas, Wayne Munroe, along with all the staff members from the Ministry of National Security in the Bahamas, extended their heartfelt condolences to the family of Retired Commissioner of Police Paul Farquharson, who passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2023.

The Ministry of National Security in the Bahamas expressed their grief and recognized Paul Farquharson’s contributions and efforts as a Police Commission. They also highlighted his achievements and the incredible experiences he attained during the early phase of his life and got ranked as official Police Commission.

As per the Ministry of National Security, Paul Farquharson was a native of Burnt Ground, Long Island, Commissioner Farquharson enlisted in the Royal Bahamas Police Force on December 12, 1966. Throughout his years in the organization, he steadily rose through the ranks and attained the Gazetted rank of Assistant Superintendent in 1988. He eventually rose to the rank of Acting Commissioner in January 2000 and was confirmed as the fourth Bahamian Commissioner of Police on November 1, 2001, succeeding Mr Bernard K. Bonaby.

Commissioner Farquharson served as Head of the Royal Bahamas Police Force until his retirement on January 18, 2008. The Paul Farquharson Conference Center, located on the grounds of Police Headquarters, East Street, is named in his honour.

In October 2019, Commissioner Farquharson’s final appointment was Chairman of the Ministry of National Security Rehabilitation of Offenders Committee. This program was established to allow convicted offenders to apply for and be granted a fresh start after complying with the standards set out by the Committee.

The Ministry of National Security appreciates Commissioner Farquharson’s services and extends heartfelt condolences to his wife, Sharon, children, Paul Jr., Vonnette and Audril, and family and loved ones during their grief.
