PM Drew addresses at inaugural ceremony on launch of CARPHA-COMISCA Collaboration

St Kitts and Nevis: PM Terrance Drew launched CARPHA – COMISCA Collaboration and Cooperation on November 24, 2023.

The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and The Council of Ministers of Health of Central America (COMISCA) collaboration and cooperation aims at facilitating the region’s health landscape. 

Significantly, this collaboration represents the partnership between two prestigious organizations in the Caribbean region.

While addressing at the virtual inauguration ceremony, the PM Terrance Drew extended his pleasure on representing the country for such a collaboration and cooperation.

He even mentioned it as a historic moment because it marks the act of providing the fixed health facilitating structure through the partnership between two organizations.

Probing ahead, the partnership promises the meeting up of health challenges among individuals in the community.

Because, CARPHA is so faithful towards its commitment to keep up the work for the “One Health” approach.

Also, the organization capitalizes partnerships to take actions against the health challenges and urgencies in the region.

Considerably, the main objective of the agency is to work for the sustainable development of the region and for the advancement of the priorities highlighted in the Caribbean in Health Intravenous.

Furthermore, the policy of CARPHA focuses on fostering and cultivating the relationships between the organizations in partnerships. Also it aims at addressing public health priorities by collaborative actions.

Turning towards the COMISCA, this organization serves as the forum of eight countries which are:

• Panama
• Nicaragua
• Honduras
• EI Salvador
• Beliza
• Guatemala
• Dominican Republic
• Costa Rica

And the organization has the primary objective of addressing and identifying regional health concerns.

Moreover, the PM highlighted the history of the collaboration between two organizations. He casted light on the issues on which both the organizations have worked together. The issues include education, disaster management, and health.

He also emphasized on the reason why the collaboration is necessary, that is the Caribbean region has so many of the issues like chronic diseases, climate change and non communicable diseases.

And, the partnership will impact greatly by contributing towards the solutions of the issues.

“The political directorate” can be assured “that we will ensure the needed advocacy for strategic policies to strengthen our health systems through this collaboration,” quoted the PM.

He concluded the address by adding that the collaboration will lead towards the improvement of the lives of the Caribbean people.
