Saint Lucia displays schedule to celebrate 44th independence anniversary

The government of Saint Lucia has released a calendar of events celebrating the country’s 44th anniversary of independence, which will take place from January 30 to March 12, 2023.

The launch will demonstrate Saint Lucia’s culture and art through a calendar of events and the unveiling of a theme, logo, and jingle in preparation for the February 22 celebration. 

On Monday, January 30, at 10 am, the 44th Independence Anniversary celebrations were officially conducted at the Finance Administrative Centre.

The following are the events planned for Saint Lucia’s 44th anniversary:

  • January 30 – Independence Launch
  • February 5 – Beginning of Independence Baton Relay
  • February 16-17 – Business Expo/ Independence Village (10 am to 6 pm)
  • February 17 – Praise and Worship & Ecumenical Service (9 30 am)
  • February 18 – 41st National Sports Awards
  • February 18 – Legacy Calypso
  • February 18-19 – Independence Service
  • February 20 – National Colours Day
  • February 20-21 – School Rallies
  • February 21 – Flag raising and fireworks display
  • February 22 – Military Parade (9 am)
  • February 22 – National Independence march (1 pm)
  • February 22 – Carenage Craze (3 pm)
  • February 23 – Independence Lecture (7 30pm)
  • March 12 – Investiture Ceremony

People were encouraged to participate in the LIVE broadcast via the National Television Network (NTN). The event was also broadcast LIVE on the Government of Saint Lucia’s Facebook and YouTube pages.

Deputy Prime Minister Ernest Hilaire also attended the official press launch for the 44th anniversary of Canada’s independence. “Today, I attended the Official Press Launch for our 44th Independence Anniversary celebrations with the theme ‘Douvan Ansanm: One People. Shaping Pur Destiny,” he said.

He further explains that The celebrations will include activities from Monday, January 30, to Sunday, March 12. He urged the island’s people to work together to build the Nation.
