Turkey: 2800 perished, 5,385 injured & 28,18 structures levelled due to Earthquake

Following the devastating earthquake that hit southeast Turkey, the Turkish Mozaik Foundation immediately started a fundraising campaign to mobilise the network of UK supporters who wish to support the earthquake survivors.

On Monday, February 6, Turkey was struck with three devastating earthquakes of magnitude 7.5, 6.0 and 5.8. It is estimated that back-to-back earthquakes resulted in almost 2800 casualties and devastated 28,18 buildings, injuring 5,385 individuals—at least ten Turkish provinces were affected in southern Turkey.

Turkey issued a level-4 alarm, which included an international call for help. Many organisations are now mobilised to provide immediate relief in the form of food, shelter, water, and medicine to help the areas that were hit by the massive earthquake.

Countries like France, UK, Belgium, Germany, USA, India, Russia, and others are assisting Turkey during these harsh times. They extended heartfelt sympathy and condolences to all who have lost loved ones or have been affected by the earthquake.

The Kahramanmaras Earthquake Emergency Relief Fund was established by the Turkey Mozaik Foundation to support civil society organisations working on the ground to provide immediate relief and medium- to long-term recovery to earthquake survivors. This initiative aimed to strengthen the humanitarian aid project in the affected regions.

The Foundation mobilised more than GBP 60,000 via the Izmir Earthquake, Elazig Earthquake and the Refugee Relief Funds to civil society organisations, including AKUT, Support to Life, Needed Map and Basic Needs Association in 2020.

To make sure that monies are allocated to carefully chosen organisations on the ground for maximum impact throughout this campaign, The Turkey Mozaik Foundation continues to work closely with representatives and support networks of Turkey Mozaik Foundation grantee partners.
