Ukraine shook after several explosions in Kyiv
Several explosions were heard in the capital city of Ukraine ‘Kyiv’ in the early hours of Friday morning.
According to the adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Ukraine adviser, Anton Gerashchenko said, “Strikes on Kyiv with a cruise or ballistic missiles continued.”
The outlet also reported several bombardments, including two blasts in Kyiv and an explosion in the distance. It has not yet been confirmed how many people have been killed or the number of injured in the city.
At the same time, several social media users in Kyiv are posting videos showing the sky lit up with fires.
Meanwhile, during a Thursday briefing, the Biden-led administration told House lawmakers that they believe Russian forces are trying to surround Kyiv, home to 3 million people.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday said, “He was the prime target, but I stay in the capital, I stay with my people.”
At the same time, President Zelenskyy said, “They want to destroy Ukraine politically by destroying the Head of State. We also have information that enemy sabotage groups have entered into Kyiv. That’s why I am asking citizens to remain careful, follow the rules of curfew.”
On Thursday, some Ukrainians have taken refugees in the subways, which acts as a bomb shelter for safety from attacks.
The explosions came after Russia’s invasion into Ukraine during a “special military operation”, essentially declaring war on the nation on early Thursday morning. Over 100 Ukrainians were killed during the action.
According to the estimated data released by United Nations, “Over 100,000 people were fleeing violence in Ukraine.”
At the same time, several former and current diplomats are currently condemning the airstrikes, comparing it to World War II.
