UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birthday

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
Secretary-General, Guterres stated that, “On the International Day of Non-Violence, we celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday and values of peace, respect & the essential dignity shared by everyone. We can defeat today’s challenges by embracing these values and working across cultures & borders to build a better future.”
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatama Gandhi) was an Indian lawyer, anti-colonial nationalist and political ethicist, who has employed non-violent resistance to direct the successful campaign for India’s independence from the rule of Britishers and to later inspire movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.
The title of “Mahatama” was awarded to Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. As such, he came to be regarded as the father of his nation. Mahatama Gandhi is internationally recognized for his doctrine of non-violent protest (satyagraha) to achieve political and social progress.
Among the millions of his Indian fellows, Gandhi was the Mahatma (which refers to as the Great Soul). The unthinking adoration of the heavy crowds that gathered to see him along the path of his tours made them a tough ordeal; he could hardly work during the day or rest at night. His fame spread across the world during his lifetime and only increased after his death. The name Mahatama Gandhi is now one of the most universally recognized on earth.
