WHO has zero tolerance for sexual assault: Dr Tedros to Rosie James who was sexually assaulted by WHO official

Crimes across the world have been continuous on the rise, multiple women and men are falling victim to these crimes. So as sexual exploitation, of which, cases are continues to spike.

Several women across the globe came up to take stand against what happened with them. After which several campaigns came to light just like #MeToo, which gave a certain push to women to speak up for themselves.

A recent case came in light after Rosie James took it to Twitter to share what happened with her, stating that, “I was sexually assaulted by a @WHO staff tonight at the @WorldHealthSmt. This was not the first time in the global health sphere that this has occurred (for MANY of us). I will be reporting it. So dissappointing+disheartening. We must do better #ZeroTolerance  #MeToo  #GenderEquity.”

After this tweet, the Director-General of the WHO, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, took it to Twitter to state that, “I am so sorry and horrified to hear this and want you to know that @WHO has zero tolerance for sexual assault and we will do everything we can to help you. I truly hope you will report what happened to investigation@who.int. Please feel free to reach out directly to me.

While noting about ZeroTolerance, Rosie James said that, “I am overwhelmed with all of your support, incl from @WHO. Thank you from the bottom of my heart . Very grateful to everyone trying to make a systemic and cultural shift towards #ZeroTolerance around the world. Solidarity with those who have experienced similar.

“I want to make something clear. This is not just a WHO or UN issue. I and many others have experienced sexual abuse in medicine and field NGOs, for example. Workplaces need to be safe and supportive environments for all. And it will take each one of us to make that a reality,” said James.

At the same time, the World Health Summit took it to Twitter to express that, “The World Health Summit doesn’t tolerate any form of harassment, intimidation or discrimination, nor do we accept physical or verbal abuse. We hope that the situation clears up quickly. It’s the World Health Summit principle to treat everyone with respect and consideration.”
