Greek Prez applauds doctors on ‘World Cancer Day’

On world cancer day, the President of Greece and the Greek judge Katerina Sakellaropoulou have held a meeting with the doctors and nurses of the anti-cancer hospital named ‘Saint Savas’, also known as the Oncological hospital of Athens Friday, February 4, 2022. She asserted that the hospital was worked Almost for the last eight years against the disease.

While providing the information about her visit, President Katerina on her Facebook post asserted,” Today the World Day against cancer, I met the heroic doctors and nurses of the Anticancer Oncological Hospital of Athens “The Saint Savvas”, of this historic institution, which for more than eighty years has been housing the consistent effort and the constant struggle of the experts against this severe test”.

Further President has explained the disease and asserted that with the proper knowledge of the disease, a person could effectively treat cancer.

She exclaimed that there was a time when people hesitated even to pronounce the name of cancer and never called it a naughty disease. By specifying the disease, she further underscored,” Yet, cancer, the disease of the modern age as we call it, although mentioned from ancient times, is no longer invincible. It can spare patients countless hours of mental and physical pain, causing anxiety, discouragement and diagnosis to themselves and their loved ones. Still, in many cases, it is prevented, treated and healed thanks to the evolution of science.

Moreover, she accentuated that the hospital has accumulated knowledge of researchers the dedication and self-denial of doctors and nurses.

She also pointed out that the broadening information of citizens on the practical importance of prevention and early diagnosis are the most significant guarantees for treatment.

After talking with the doctors and nurses of the hospital, President Katerina highlighted,” The conversation with the doctors made me, once again, understand how hard medicine is hitting with the multi-headed monster called cancer.”

While emphasizing and applauding the hospital, President noted,” every story that takes place in the halls of this hospital, as everywhere else, is unique and hides in pain and sorrow, not only for our sick fellow man but also for his family and friends his own, who his own, support him, by giving him courage from their courage, in complex and unequal battles”.

She further urged the government of Greece to enhance the research on the disease.
